The Society

Hi! I'm Ingrid. I am a mom of 4 beautiful kids and married to an engineer from Michigan.

I grew up in Iowa, and have lived in Chicago (go Wildcats! go Maroons!), New York, Miami, and now Southern California. I have always loved games (500 or Bridge anyone?), so learning and loving mahjong came quickly. After playing for a year, I was ready for some variation to the hands, which is how the American Mahjong Society was born. My newfound commitment to a tennis league has been tested with my passion for mahjong.

I draw my inspiration from my mahjong crew. It is truly special how four people who commit to a time together every week can become such close friends. I am grateful for these advisors to the company who keep the patterns fresh, the opinions frank, and the support unconditional.

What does the American Mahjong Society stand for?

We are a woman-founded Mahjong league created by a mom who loves the game and the community it builds.

Our mission is to honor the legacy of the National Mah Jongg League (NMJL) while bringing a fresh perspective to the game. We play with deep respect for the classic American Mahjong rules though are not affiliated with the NMJL. We have evolved the game, offering a new card of patterns to play throughout the year.

This is Mahjong reimagined:

✦ A refreshed card that’s thoughtfully updated—recognizable yet bold.

✦ A lower priced card
to enable people the option to play on multiple cards throughout the year. This will keep the game fresh and your mind sharp! You can also take the money saved to give to charities of your choice versus those of our choosing.

✦ A league led by women and built for women, creating space for connection, joy, and empowerment.

We believe in the power of tradition and the importance of progress. We’re preserving what makes Mahjong beloved while creating something entirely our own.

Enjoy the game - a new spin on an old, timeless favorite!
